The Red Rose

I have always loved the red Rose....for a myriad of reasons....I think of

Coco Chanel, Collette, Paloma Picasso, and in a completely unrelated way, Dorothy Parker and Georgia O'Keefe. I think of stained red lips on Marilyn Monroe, and blood on dreamy young Edward (the vampire's) tongue.

(and I actually did personally do the flowers for New Moon & Eclipse)

According to Greek Mythology, The petals of the Rose were stained red from the immortal blood of Aphrodite, when she scratched herself on their thorns as she rushed to comfort her wounded lover Adonis.

The New York City Flower District...

As I work away today planning all the design, purchasing, and scheduling for the various 2010 Olympic projects I'm working on, I needed a little break & wound up looking through photos of my last trip to New York City's fabulous flower district in Chelsea....thought I'd share a few of my favourites.
