Late Summer Dahlias

What better way to arrive home after 9 days in New York City than to masses of hot pink, orange and red Dahlias all waiting to be arranged into fabulous party flowers for one of my favourite clients staff party...

All of our Dahlias are locally grown at Fraser Valley farms & bought fresh at our local flower auction each Tuesday & Thursday. They are not a long lived flower, with a vase life of 3-5 days, but they are so beautiful and available in so many saturated colours, that for $1.50 each they are well worth every penny. These should be available until late September, so if you are planning a party and want a big show for a great price keep Dahlias in mind!

Fantastic Colours
turn into Centrepieces for the outdoor tables...

Dinner Plate Dahlias....Only a very few stems of these are available from our local Auction, and colours are extremely limited. This yellow variety averages at $3.00 per stem and are about 10" in diameter. Last week there were about 50 stems total available for all of western Canada. If you are interested in these please call us in advance to place an order. (Unfortunately, no guarantees on availability)

A great gardening challenge too...

Imagine....

Well, call me an emotional aging hippie, but I did shed a tear or 2 at the memorial for John Lennon....and the beauty & significance of flowers in life...and death.
Thank God for the humour of the students at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

New York City (Those Vagabond Shoes....)

Well, here I am in New York City for the New York International Gift Show....buying fabulous things for the store for the fall and winter holiday season. The show starts tomorrow & I got here Tuesday so I could get a chance to visit all the fantastic shops & museums I can possibly fit in.
Mine Field Shoes at MoMA
I could have used these the last few days walking an average of 8 hours a day around the city.
You would think that by now I would value sensible shoes over cute shoes....
(oh well, at least I looked good)

I ended up having a cocktail at this sweet little bar in SoHo which just seemed to call me in....just to rest my feet for a while of course. (And to raise a glass in honour of my dog Lola, who would be even more perfect here than usual)

Thank God for bandaids & taxis!

Gorgeous at Grouse Mountain

These photos are all from an anniversary party of a local investment firm. Held at Grouse Mountain last month with guests arriving by helicopter, it was the little details that made this event so spectacular...

Flowers that work within their setting...

Twilight...

Little details... an Orchid pinned to each napkin.

Accents throughout the room...

The Centrepieces...

A close up of the Orchids...
Orchids festooning a Snowshoe...
Orchids tucked in to the cracks of old wooden tables...
God is in the details.
Thanks Andrea Sutherland for the fabulous photos!

The Takeover

I have been working on a new TV show (name to be announced in the future) and am busy at the shop with another TV pilot, the feature film "Farewell Atlantis", and all our regular fabulous parties, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, funerals, and celebrations.
In a moment of insanity, I thought it would be a good idea to work out of my house on the new show, as it was an unusually large order of artificial flowers..It pretty much took over my house for the last 10 days. I might rethink this one in the future!
Fruit and Flower Topiaries gracing my dining room table.

The first batch of posies lined up in my living room...

My guest room is taken over..

As is my backyard....
Pretty flowers for Hotel Rooms...

And Wreaths to be placed around lamps on each table in the Dining Room.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS.
